Trent Sainsbury, contract terminated, Jiangsu Suning, QPR transfer news

TRENT Sainsbury is a free agent after the Socceroos defender terminated his contract with Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning.

It clears the way for Sainsbury to make his next move, likely to be to English Championship club QPR, though Aston Villa and Dutch club PSV have also shown interest in the defender.

Sainsbury was dropped to Jiangsu’s reserves after his return from the World Cup, but it’s understood the Chinese club were still demanding a hefty transfer fee for him.

The PFA have been working with Sainsbury since the conclusion of the World Cup to terminate his contract with Jiangsu.

“The PFA’s legal department has provided advice to Trent since the conclusion of the World Cup,” PFA Chief Executive John Didulica said.

“Trent has terminated his contract for just cause in accordance with FIFA Regulations and the longstanding jurisprudence of the Court of Arbitration for Sport. As a consequence, he is now a free agent and entitled to sign with a club of his choosing.”

Sainsbury, who spent last season on loan to Swiss club Grasshopper, says he is looking forward to resuming his playing career as soon as possible.

“I thank the PFA for their support during this period and I wish Jiangsu Suning all the best for the future. I look forward to resolving my playing future as soon as possible.”
