United States' Bobby Wood wants to leave Hamburg, return to Bundesliga
United States international Bobby Wood has told Hamburg he wants to leave the 2. Bundesliga side.
Preseason is underway at the club following their first-ever relegation from the top flight, and Wood, 25, is hoping to remain in the Bundesliga despite scoring only three goals in 25 appearances for Hamburg last term.
“[He] informed us that he wants to leave the club and continue to play [in the] Bundesliga,” coach Christian Titz said. “We’ll wait and see what will happen after the talks in the coming days and whether there will be a transfer. If he opts to stay here, then he will be a member of the squad.”
The U.S. forward has been linked with Hannover 96 in recent weeks, and a report in kicker on Thursday said that Ukrainian side Dynamo Kiev were also interested.
Hamburg depart for their preseason training camp in Austria this weekend, and the door is open for Wood to return.
