Transfer Talk - Manchester United want Harry Maguire on back of his strong World Cup

The ESPN FC guys answer your tweets, including whether they would pick Toby Alderweireld or Harry Maguire if they were Jose Mourinho.

Paul Mariner and Mark Donaldson delve into the players that could come in and could leave before Manchester United’s first Premier League game of the season.

The transfer window is open, and Transfer Talk has the latest rumours making the rounds. Follow along with our daily blog throughout the summer.

When does the transfer window close in the Premier League and the top European leagues?

Man United step up Maguire bid

Manchester United have informed Leicester that they want to sign Harry Maguire before the two clubs meet on the opening day of the Premier League season.

According to the Mirror, the England World Cup hero has emerged as a leading target for United after they failed to prise Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham.

Jose Mourinho is keen to replace Daley Blind with another ball-playing centre-back, and £65 million-rated Maguire is now viewed as the ideal recruit.

The Mirror claims the 25-year-old is open to a switch to Old Trafford as it would allow him to fulfill his ambition of playing in the Champions League and challenge for major trophies.

Viva la Vida for Liverpool

Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Domagoj Vida after agreeing terms with the Croatia defender, reports Turkish outlet Aspor.

West Ham and Everton also have been tracking the 29-year-old following his starring role at the World Cup, but it appears the Reds have sneaked in ahead of their rivals.

The centre-back would sign a two-year contract to join international teammate Dejan Lovren at Anfield — but first Liverpool must meet Besiktas’ €25m asking price.

It may take time to get the transfer over the line, with Vida currently on vacation after playing in the World Cup final less than two weeks ago.

Chelsea chase Bailey

Chelsea are battling Roma for speedy Bayer Leverkusen star Leon Bailey, says the Evening Standard.

The lightning-quick winger claimed nine goals and six assists in 25 Bundesliga starts last season to command a price tag in the region of €50m. That shouldn’t be an issue for Chelsea, but the Blues face stiff competition from Roma after the Serie A side missed out on Malcom to Barcelona.

Meanwhile, the Independent says Maurizio Sarri remains interested in a deal for Serbian attacking midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The 23-year-old has also been linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid, but it has been reported that Lazio are demanding nearly €100m for their prized asset.

Tap-ins

– Real Madrid have agreed a contract with Thibaut Courtois but are yet to find progress in negotiations with Chelsea regarding a fee for the goalkeeper. The Daily Mail says Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris remains an alternative to the Belgian, with Madrid focused on replacing Keylor Navas this summer.

– Wolves continue to be busy in the transfer market as they eye two more additions before deadline day. Sky Sports claims the Premier League new boys have joined the race for Barcelona defender Yerry Mina, while The Sun says they have offered £18m for Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore.
