WHILE Real Madrid have their wandering eye on a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, one World Cup winner could also be on his way to Madrid.

Unfortunately, though, it’s for their noisy neighbours.

Over in the UK, and a World Cup bronze medallist and familiar face in the Premier League could be gifted a golden opportunity to kickstart his managerial career.

All that and more in another edition of Rumour Mill!

Atletico Madrid have approached Chelsea over the possibility of taking Olivier Giroud on loan, according to Sky sources.

However, it is believed Chelsea would prefer to do a permanent deal with the Spanish club.

Giroud scored three goals in 13 appearances for the Blues last season after joining from London rivals Arsenal in January.

The 31-year-old was part of the France squad that won the 2018 World Cup, although he failed to score in seven appearances for Les Blues in Russia.

THIERRY HENRY THE NEXT VILLA BOSS?

Thierry Henry has emerged a shock contender to become the Aston Villa boss if Steve Bruce gets the axe.

The Arsenal legend quit his £4 million-a-year role (AU$7 million) at Sky Sports earlier this week with the intention of entering management following his success as Belgium assistant boss at the World Cup.

He, alongside Roberto Martinez, guided Belgium to a third-place finish in Russia.

LOS BLANCOS EYE ICARDI

Real Madrid are lining up Mauro Icardi as Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement, according to reports.

President Florentino Perez promised big-name signings while unveiling young defender Alvaro Odriozola on Wednesday.

And Argie ace Icardi, 25, would fit the bill after several years impressing in Serie A.

He was the joint top scorer in the Italian top-flight after matching Ciro Immobile’s 29 strikes.

But he failed to receive a call-up to Argentina’s World Cup squad – a decision believed to have been made for non-footballing reasons.

Real are long-term admirers of Icardi and are reportedly ready to launch a bid after making initial contact in January.

The former Sampdoria man – who has 100 Serie A goals in 159 games for Inter – reportedly has a £98 million (AU$173 million) release clause.

REAL MADRID DESPERATELY WANT TRIPPIER

Spurs are expecting a string of bids for Kieran Trippier — with Real Madrid in the hunt.

Sources close to the player have spoken openly about the England defender being aware of Real’s interest.

And it is understood that Trippier’s impressive performances for the Three Lions at the World Cup have made him a major target for big clubs in England and Europe.

Trippier, 27, arrived at Spurs from Burnley for just £3.5 million (AU$6 million) in 2015.

But his value now would be north of £50 million (AU$88 million) — a record fee for an English player.

Tottenham would strongly resist any formal approach for the player, who signed a five-year deal only last summer.

ROMA LINE-UP CECH MOVE

Roma are considering a shock bid for Arsenal keeper Petr Cech to replace Alisson.

The Italians need to find a new keeper after Brazil No1 Alisson left to join Liverpool this week in a world record £67 million (AU$118.5 million) deal.

Roma’s sporting director Monchi is worried that the side’s defence is too young and believes an older goalkeeper would bring much-needed experience.

Cech, 36, faces competition for the first team at Arsenal following the arrival of Bernd Leno for £22 million (AU$39 million) from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

EVERTON READY TO SPLASH THE CASH ON RICHARLISON

Everton are in advanced talks to sign Watford forward Richarlison in a deal which could be worth £50 million (AU$88 million), according to Sky sources.

Richarlison, 21, signed for Watford last summer for £13 million (AU$12 million) from Fluminense when current Everton manager Marco Silva was in charge at Vicarage Road.

The Brazilian forward made a big impression on his arrival to the Premier League, scoring five goals in his first 12 appearances.

A £50 million (AU$88 million) deal would see Richarlison become Everton’s club-record signing, overtaking the £45m the Toffees paid for Gylfi Sigurdsson last summer.

COLOMBIAN STAR ON WOLVES’ RADAR

Wolves are plotting a bold move for Barcelona’s World Cup sensation Yerry Mina.

And the Premier League new boys hope super-agent Jorge Mendes can help land the Colombia centre-back.

Mina was one of the stars in Russia but his Barca future is uncertain, despite only joining in January.

Wolves are keen on a season-long loan and could promise him the first-team football he craves.

ADEMOLA LOOKMAN SET FOR RB LEIPZIG

RB Leipzig are preparing a £17 million (AU$30 million) bid to persuade Everton to let them sign winger Ademola Lookman on a permanent deal.

Lookman spent a successful season on loan with the Bundesliga club last season after being told he was not ready for regular first team action at Goodison Park.

The England under-21 international made such an impact that Leipzig now want to snap him up on a full-time basis – but so far they have founds Everton unwilling to do business.

They have already seen two bids knocked by for the 20-year-old, the last one set at £14m plus add-ons.

But they are ready to increase their offer for the highly-rated London born player, who it is understood is keen on making the switch to Germany on a permanent basis.
