Barcelona had tabled a second offer believed to be worth up to £53m (A$93m) for the Brazil international, with talks still ongoing between the two clubs and representatives of the player.

Sky sources suggest the La Liga champions first began efforts to lure Willian to the Nou Camp over three months ago.

Premier League rivals Manchester United were interested in a deal for the winger back in May, with the player himself wanting to leave the club during the tenure of former head coach Antonio Conte, who has since been replaced by Maurizo Sarri.

Willian, who was voted the Chelsea players’ player of the season last term, was left out of the starting line-up for the 1-0 FA Cup final win over United.

He scored Chelsea’s only goal in their Champions League last-16 tie against Barcelona last season.

Willian has scored 44 goals in 236 appearances for Chelsea since joining the club from Russian side Anzhi in 2013.

REAL PREPARING FOR HUGE HAZARD SWOOP

Chelsea could also be set to lose another player to a Spanish giant, with Real Madrid set to open their bidding for Belgian star Eden Hazard.

The Evening Standard reports that Los Blancos are preparing to open negotiations with a £112million (A$198m) offer for the winger.

However, the report adds that the Blues value their talisman at closer to £200m (A$354m), and are hoping that they’ll be able to tempt the World Cup star to stay at Stamford Bridge and sign a new contract.

“After six wonderful years at Chelsea, it might be time to discover something different,” Hazard said after securing a third place finish with the Red Devils at the World Cup. “You know my preferred destination.”

The attacker has two years left on his contract, but has openly admitted an interest in playing for the La Liga giants.

Real are also thought to be confident of signing Hazard’s club and international teammate Thibaut Courtois, with the stopper thought to be ready to quit the London club.

SARRI REQUESTS PJANIC MOEV

New Blues boss Maurizio Sarri has also reportedly personally requested the club sign Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea – and Manchester City – are interested in signing the 28-year-old, who has been touted as a potential departee after the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in Turin.

The player is allegedly the target of a £72m (A$127m) swoop from the Londoners, with Sarri including the player on a list of transfer targets handed to owner Roman Abramovich upon his appointment at Stamford Bridge.

However, Pep Guardiola is also keen on the Bosnian.

He’s not the only Juve player thought to be on Sarri’s radar – with Gonzalo Higuain and Daniele Rugari also touted as targets.
