Atletico Madrid sign Celta Vigo's Jonny Castro Otto loan him to Wolves

MADRID — Spanish defender Jonny Castro Otto has signed for Atletico Madrid from Celta Vigo and been immediately loaned out to promoted Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers, the La Liga runners up said on Wednesday.

“Atletico Madrid and Celta Vigo have reached an agreement over the transfer of Jonny Castro to our club. The defender, 24, has signed for our club until 2024 although he has been loaned to Wolverhampton in the Premier League,” said a statement from Atletico.

Castro made 183 appearances in La Liga for Celta and helped them reach the semifinals of the Europa League in 2017, where they were eliminated by Manchester United. He has played for Spain at under-19 and under-21 level.

“Otto completed his paperwork at Compton on Wednesday and could make his competitive Wolves debut in the season opener against Everton on 11th August,” added a statement from Wolves, who earned promotion back to the English top flight last season after a six-year absence.
